In December, the Canuelas farm market will be operational

After 120 years, the Hacienda de Liniers market will move to Cañuelas, on kilometer 88 of Route 6; All of which implies a historical change for the auctions that are the reference for the price of meat nationwide. The activity will leave the City of Buenos Aires, contemplating both logistical and environmental modernization.

The operational start-up in the new establishment, called Mercado Agroganadero (MAG), would be within 2 months, at the beginning of December. The initial kick will be made with real operations, although partial, in the order of 10% of the usual quantities of animals, so that any inconveniences can be tested and detected before making the complete move.

The auctions in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Mataderos officially began on May 1, 1901, but the first slaughtered animal – effective start of activities – is dated March 21, 1900.

The design of the new space – private, not concessioned as is the current property – included decisive updates. In order to comply with environmental recommendations, a fundamental axis of the new infrastructure has been to ensure, from the beginning of the works, a correct management of the effluents. Everyone understood this critical point, which in the historic property generated multiple problems, basically due to the blood thrown into the Cildañez stream basin.

“Now there will be an effluent plant, already built, in a circular bioeconomy concept, friendly to the environment,” explained Alfonso Monasterio, one of the consignees behind the overcoming change.

To ensure these improvements, the head of the Federal Criminal and Correctional Court No. 2 of Morón, Jorge Rodríguez, who is in charge of the Matanza-Riachuelo Basin case, toured the new property on several occasions.

In addition, it is highlighted that the circulation of trucks, outside the metropolitan limits, will also mean a logistical and environmental improvement. In this sense, it remains to define administrative issues on the guides for carriers. Next week there are meetings with political authorities to resolve issues related to the change of jurisdiction.

The details of the new infrastructure present significant figures and data. In a total area of 130 hectares, where it is planned to carry out other agro-industrial activities in the future, the new Finance Market will occupy 34 hectares, and will have 41 thousand m2 of roofed areas.

There will be 750 pens: 450 for sales and another 300 for storage and extraction; articulated with the respective footbridges and 17 curved berths, to facilitate the herding and care of the animals.

These days the laying of roofs, designed for the installation of solar panels, is being completed so that the MAG generates its own energy. In turn, the slope of the same allows to collect rainwater through the columns and collect it in cisterns for reuse in different uses
